Help for The Deaf with Cochlear Implants

Some types of hearing loss can not be improved with a standard headset, a hearing aid receives sound through a microphone, amplified and then played into the ear. Fortunately, some of the people who suffer from these problems, to help in other ways. One such method is a cochlear implants. A cochlear implant device must be implanted surgically in the ear. Cochlear implants do not amplify sounds to the ear, but stimulates the functioning of the auditory nerve in the cochlea. This is achieved by tiny electrical impulses.

These devices are very complex and cochlear parts are made of very rare miniature a speech processor and contains a radio transmitter. As you can imagine, this is a rather expensive and not routinely done, especially since there are alternatives that are considered first. The part is that most of these people who had the surgery was worth the money and the results were fantastic. In fact, most patients reported that their audience was almost as good as normal.

It is a great advance in public immediately after the surgery, but the public continues to improve for six months or more tuning sessions and the natural body. The results are very much more slowly for kids because it takes longer to get used to electric stimuli.

Different types of noise can be a problem, but some of these difficulties can be adjusted is one reason why it usually takes longer than six months for the unit in harmony with you and your lifestyle. For this reason, the height of the success of a cochlear implant depends mainly on the patient. Some of the considerations that play an important role in the success of implants are: the time it was numb, as long as you hear it before they become numb, your brain remembers how at the noise and the state of the cochlea and auditory nerves.

As already mentioned, the operation and development of a cochlear implant is expensive. Of course, the final price depends on the equipment installed and the doctor where he or she is, but you can say that cost at least $ 50,000, and perhaps twice as high. Fortunately, most insurance companies will take some costs, but the percentage is paid to you very differently.

The cochlear implant is the only mechanism proposed at that time, to help patients with some permanent hearing loss - hearing loss in particular. Until 2000, the children could get this, if they contain more than two years in the U.S. were, however, this age limit was subsequently reduced to one year. Nearly two-thirds of those who have undergone cochlear implantation for children and most children were between two and six.
